me.

I am an Indo-Canadian bassoonist, contrabassoonist, and creator based in Toronto. I am currently in my last year of my Bachelor's of Orchestral Bassoon Performance degree, graduating in 2026. As I end this chapter of my life, I plan to expand my horizons into more contemporary bassoon playing, while also using my individual platform to increase awareness around the lack of South-Asian representation within the classical and new-music bubbles. My goal as a musician and creative is to make both the bassoon and contrabassoon more cross-functional instruments, bridging the gap into various genres and styles of music, while also making an active and conscious effort to continue to showcase repertoire from underrepresented composers, both new and old.

bassoonist.

In the classically-trained portion of my life, I'm an extremely versatile musician, having played in every formation of standard ensemble and chamber group, in addition to a plethora of solo playing. I've played in a variety of spaces within Ontario, including Roy Thompson Hall, Koerner Hall, and Meridian Hall.

As a solo player, I've participated in classes with Theo Plath, Gustavo Núñez, Sophie Dervaux, Carlo Colombo, and Lola Descours, among many other internationally recognized bassoonists. I've put on two solo recitals, have had numerous solo performance opportunities at a variety of summer festivals and orchestral lobby concerts, and have performed a concerto with orchestra; Marjan Mozetich's Concerto for Bassoon and Strings with Marimba (May 2025). Looking ahead to the near future, I will be putting on a third solo recital to complete my undergraduate degree, and will be performing another concerto with orchestra in the 26-27 season, Carl Maria von Weber's Concerto for Bassoon and Orchestra in F Major.

As a chamber musician, I've performed with groups ranging from a duo to a chamber orchestra. Having played most of the standard repertoire, I am equipped with the skills to be a plug-and-play chamber musician. Within the 25-26 concert season, I play full-time with both a wind quintet as well as a reed trio. I've had the opportunity to play in a variety of chamber groups for various Toronto Symphony Orchestra concerts, as well as provide educational concerts to people of all ages. Upcoming repertoire highlights include Françaix's Divertissement pour Trio d'Anches, as well as Yun's Wind Quintet I & II.

As an ensemble musician, I have played with a variety of ensembles throughout Southern Ontario. In addition to performing as an active freelance musician, I currently hold the positions of Principal Bassoon of the Milton Philharmonic Orchestra, Rotating Principal Bassoon of both the Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra and Oakville Symphony Youth Orchestra, as well as Contrabassoonist of the University of Toronto Symphony Orchestra. Staying as in-shape as possible with playing, I have recently collaborated with the Ontario Philharmonic, and Urban Orchestra, in addition to other orchestras and ensembles throughout the province. Upcoming highlights for the 25-26 season include Berlioz's Symphonie Fantastique, Strauss' Death and Transfiguration, Rachmaninoff's Symphony No. 2 and Symphonic Dances, as well as Sibelius' Symphony No. 5.

creator.

When not playing classical performance repertoire, I enjoy branching out into a variety of other genres and styles, in addition to composing. The genres I actively occupy the most outside of Classical are Jazz, Free-Improvisation, and Electronic.

I've worked under numerous Canadian jazz/experimental musicians, including Andrew Downing, Patrick O'Reilly, and David Occhipinti, to help form my interpretations of improvisation and approach to understanding new-music. I consistently perform at the Canadian Music Centre, an inviting home for new-music premieres of all styles.

As a new-music ensemble/chamber player, I occupy the new music and improvisation scene throughout the Southern Ontario area, playing heavily with a variety of groups such as the AMOT Orchestra, New Symphony Orchestra, Korba Sun Collective, DOG Ensemble, and University of Toronto Hybrid Ensemble.

Soloistically, I play as many new/contemporary works as I can, whether they be works written for the bassoon itself, or arrangements of compositions for other instruments. Some upcoming repertoire to be performed is a reinterpretation of Bach's Cello Suite No. 2 in D Minor, Stockhausen's In Freundschaft, as well as a solo recital featuring works composed only by South-Asian composers.

I have lent my sound to a variety of recordings of different genres, and consistently premiere new works for various instrumentations with the groups that I play with. A "recently premiered" highlight is playing on CBC top 30 under 30 recipient, Justin Lapierre's composition, The Gatherers.

As a composer, I am actively writing music for a variety of new-music ensembles I play in, while also composing music for bassoon to be performed on my final undergraduate solo recital. While still very new to composition, the goal of my output is to capture moments and fragments that are personal to me, whether it be through culture, sonic upbringing, or other factors.

For the remainder of the 25-26 concert season, I plan to bridge further into electronic and electro-acoustic music, while also setting aside time for two recording projects; A full album to be uploading to streaming services of bassoon, double bass, and drum kit playing, as well as a solo recording of myself interpreting the entirety of Cornelius Cardew's Treatise, on both bassoon and contrabassoon.
